Military plane crashes in Russia

An alert has been issued in Russia's Ivanovo region after a military plane crashed shortly after takeoff.

According to the first information sent by Russian media, the military Il-76 was carrying eight crew members and seven passengers.

According to reports from the crash site, the cause of the crash was an engine fire during takeoff.

According to the head of Ivanovo district, the accident happened not far from the residential area.

This is the second Il-76 crash since earlier this year. In late January, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a similar aircraft in the Belgorod region. The plane was carrying 74 people, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, who were to take part in a prisoner exchange on the Ukraine-Russia border.

All 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war and transport personnel, died in the crash. The Russian Defense Ministry called the incident a “terrorist attack,” saying that “Kiev was aware of a mission to transport Ukrainian prisoners of war for a prisoner exchange, which was to take place at the Kolotilovka checkpoint.”
